Proposal photographer in NYC

I’ve been photographing proposals in New York for over 12 years now. Thousands of them. And I still get that same rush when I see someone go down on one knee – it never gets old, I promise you that.

New York is just built for this moment. I’ve shot proposals in Central Park at golden hour, on rooftops in Brooklyn with the Manhattan skyline behind them, in quiet corners of the West Village where nobody even noticed us. Every single time, the city delivers something you couldn’t have planned. That’s what makes being a proposal photographer in NYC so addictive.

The secret part is actually the hardest – and the most fun. I’ve hidden behind trees, pretended to be a tourist, sat at a café table with a coffee I didn’t drink for 40 minutes waiting for the right moment. After 12 years of this, I’ve gotten pretty good at disappearing. Your partner won’t know I’m there until they see the photos. The real reaction, the real tears, the real everything – that’s what I’m there to catch as your secret proposal photographer. Not a posed smile for the camera.

Surprise proposals are a different game entirely. There’s no second chance, no “let’s try that again.”

For every NYC surprise proposal, I arrive at the location 30 to 40 minutes early. I check the light, figure out where to stand, think through what could go wrong. Wind, a passing crowd, a food cart that wasn’t there yesterday – New York always throws something at you. I’ve learned to work with it rather than fight it. By the time you arrive with your partner, I’m already invisible and ready.

You don’t need one. But you’ll wish you had one the next morning when you’re trying to remember exactly how she looked at that moment 😄

I work with you beforehand – we talk through the location, the timing, the light, the angle. I know which bench in Central Park catches the afternoon sun perfectly. I know which rooftop gives you the skyline without the construction crane in the background. That kind of knowledge only comes from doing this over and over again, and I’ve done it a lot.
